Bharani is the second of the 27 nakshatras, which also resides entirely within the sign of Aries the Ram, ruled by Mars. This Nakshatra is ruled by Venus. Here, a Mars/Venus interaction of energy is experienced by planets, which pass or transit this asterism. The union of the feminine (Venus) and masculine (Mars) reflects the creative potential which is experienced here. Bharani is a media or channel for artistic gifts and talents. The symbol for this nakshatra is a yoni, the organ of female reproduction. A vessel made of clay (earthen ware) which serves to hold the creative forces is also depicted. Bharani is formed by three faint stars in the sign of the Ram. Called Musca Borealis, it consists of the stars 35, 39, and 41 Arietis. which form a triangle. ‘These stars are found north of the ecliptic above the tail of the Ram. This lunar mansion is called “the star, of restraint,” which reflects the sense of being entangled in the world of desires and illusions. Strong sexual desires may be experienced here due to the Venus/Mars influence. Bharani also bears ~bearing” or “she who bears,” which indicates the need for forbearance, hard work and discipline. The animal symbol for this nakshatra is a male elephant, which reflects the ability to carry the burden of humanity. The deity connected with this asterism is Yama, the god of death. He is the agent of lord Shiva. Yama means “the binder” and also refer, to various yogic disciplines such as breath control, hatha yoga and meditation. Yama guides the soul to the astral plane, where it can experience the result of its kama from the present life and prepare for the life to come.Varna is a deity of sacrifice and discipline. Spiritual depth and yogic practices may be experienced through Bharani’s influence. Austerities may be needed to harness the primal creativity of this nakshatra. Bharani has the power to cleanse and remove impurities. The Sun is in its exaltation sign of Aries when it is in this lunar Nakshtra.
